Josephine's Book Blog

I love PNR/UF, especially Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark, Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels series and many more :) I'm currently working on my Blood and Flames series. Book 1 'Fire and Fangs' is available now from Amazon. I'm a member of Goodreads too :)

Update on Blood and Flames Series!!!

— feeling excited

Hi everyone! I know I've been MIA for a while now. Due to entering my final year at university and a family bereavement, the edits for book 3 - Insidious Deceit - had to take a back burner for a while.

But I'm letting you know that I plan on releasing Insidious Deceit before the end of summer!!!!! I can't give a definite date yet as the cover for this book still needs to be finalised.

And because I don't have enough to do what with uni work and other commitments, I have also begun writing book 4 in the series!!!! (Just finished chapter 9 - just saying -and the word count it currently 31,662). Take what you will from the title of book 3.. It's a rollar coaster ride of Oh my frickin' shit, really? WOW!!!!

I will release a synopsis within the next week before I disappear next weekend (having to work is a killer isn't it?). I have to thank all of you for your support thus far and I hope that you aren't too mad that I've been out of touch for a while...

I spent all day thinking that I needed to give more.

So how about new covers for Fire and Fangs and Imperfect Harmony? Before the big cover reveal for Insidious Deceit...

Then I was also thinking, why not make things a little easier for people to get their hands on the whole series so far upon the release of Insidious Deceit?

I'll be able to give a more concrete release date in April once essays for uni are handed in. :)

It's all so exciting!!!

Don't forget that I'll be posting a synopsis for Insidious Deceit within the next week...

:)

Blood and Flames - book 3 update

I have to thank everyone for their support. The reviews for Fire and Fangs and Imperfect Harmony have been so great! Now I have news about the continuation of the Blood and Flames series... The first draft of book 3 has been finished! It's been a journey that has pulled at my heart strings and yet could make me laugh like a mad woman. I'm happy to announce that there will be a fourth book. Keri and Danni's story doesn't end in book 3. There are still more challenges that they must face. So, bring on the rounds of editing and beta reading, Yay!

A wonderful review for Fire and Fangs!

Read in January, 2015

I was graciously given this book to read as an ARC for an honest review.

The beginning of the book was a little bit confusing until I was able to figure out all of the characters, and what their respective parts to the book was about. Once I figured out the 3 main characters, Damon, Keri and Danni I was good to go. The book was fast paced, told a really great story, and never lacked for amusement. I found myself chuckling quite a few times whenever Danni was going at it. She had such a large personality and the author was great in developing and building it up throughout the story. Keri, the human agent was a tough cookie too. She gave as good as she got; she never backed down from anyone whether they be human of supernational (sup). Damon was every fictional book boyfriend. He was the alpha vampire who set his sights on Keri and wasn't about to let go for anything. Enter Lucas, king of the shapeshifters who, after taking one look at Danni, he wants her like no other.

The storyline was was really good; it kept you guessing. It was fast paced which is what I like in any story. I want to the story to catch me right away and hold my interest in a way that makes me want to finish the book in one sitting. Again, the only difference for me with the beginning of this book, up until 6% was I had to remember who the main characters were and what their significance to the story they would be.

Overall, I really liked this book. I can't wait to find out what happens with Keri and Damon since it ended with a bang! Damon and Keri deserve their HEA.

Beauty and the Beast by Keair Snyder

Beauty and the Beast (The Vampire Fairy Tales, #1) - Keair Snyder

Beauty and the Beast (The Vampire Fairy Tales, #1)Beauty and the Beast by Keair Snyder
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received this in exchange for an honest review from LOP.

I really enjoyed this book. I don't usually go for anything historical but I just had to read this book. The way that Snyder creates scene after scene in such a beautiful and poetic way was mesmerizing.

It was a really long book and despite not being able to read more every day, I would pick up the book and be instantly transported into this world.

I grew to love Mother even though I was unsure of her at the start. Lucania annoyed me throughout the book although I did love him for sending Arianna out to experience the world without him even though it hurt them both. At times (when they were together) I didn't feel their love, Arianna seemed more obsessed and Lucania seemed more aloof.

However, it was a great read and showed that there is life beyond the man you love and that while life can kick you in the teeth, there is always a silver lining.

Mortal Sentry (#2) Diana Graves

Mortal Sentry - Diana Graves

Mortal SentryMortal Sentry by Diana Graves
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

It was so hard to put this book down!!!! Where to start? Raina has to deal with a lot, a demon who wants her dead, a vampire that is crazy, her relationship with her mum and her very questionable relationship with Mato. Then there are her brothers, Nil (Nick), who I fell in love with in this book. Michael, who didn't play a big part in this book but is mentioned and Tristan who I wanted to slap even though he also had only a small part to play in the book. Katie is Raina's sister, well half sister, who has had a rough time too. In Fatal Retribution, they didn't get on, but things begin to shift between the sisters during this book.

This book is full of mystery, action and a touch of romance. It's a book about what lengths you go to for your family despite what everyone else thinks about you or them. Of course there's also dead bodies being discovered, I loved that the EI didn't seek Raina out to help them, but she helped them just because she was there. It is a small and subtle difference that sets the book apart from others in this genre.

Most of these types of books consist of a heroine, a hero and a mission, but Graves' main character has a family and she describes Raina's family and their issues so realistically. The book flows so well that I didn't want to put it down. (Have I said that already?)

As the book develops, relationships change and opinions change. Graves took me on a journey and I'm absolutely devastated that the book has ended.

Alister, Mato and Damon... I think we should just throw them in a room together and see what happens. :)

I received this book from the lovers of paranormal group for an honest review.

I loved this book, it captured me from the first page. I loved how the author developed the characters and made them all identifiable. My heart broke for Nick and Tristan kind of annoyed me. Raina is still living with her mum at twenty one years of age and they have a strange relationship, her mother says all the right things but doesn't show it.

This book was full of intrigue, mystery and Gore with a little romance thrown in. Mato and Raina's relationship is only beginning and I like that they didn't fall into bed or in love two days after meeting. I can't wait to read the next book to see how everything develops!!!

Forbidden Embers by Tessa Adams

Forbidden Embers - Tessa Adams

Forbidden Embers (Dragon's Heat, #3)Forbidden Embers by Tessa Adams
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this installment. It took me a while to get into it as I didn't connect with Logan in the previous books. However, I did really enjoy the chemistry between him and Cecily. He helped boost her confidence while she took his down a few pegs. Logan was protective, caring and considerate towards Cecily (and boy did he want her bad). Cecily found Logan irresistible. I really enjoyed watching Cecily's character grow and develop as she tried to figure out what was wrong with her clan. I was a little disappointed that her storm maker powers weren't a big feature in the story, it would have added another dimension.

Hidden Embers by Tessa Adams (Book 2 in the Dragon's Heat series)

Hidden Embers - Tessa Adams

Hidden Embers (Dragon's Heat, #2)Hidden Embers by Tessa Adams
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A great sequel to Dark Embers. This is the story of Quinn and Jasmine and their race to beat the virus that's spreading within the Dragonstar clan. Jasmine is a tough woman, she's independent almost to a fault. She takes to the idea of dragons just a bit too easily for me.

The relationship between them is a little more refined than that of Dylan and Phoebe in the previous book. Quinn is a very dominant kind of dragon and this need to dominate and protect Jasmine causes quite a bit of friction between them.

Jasmine is a likable character, she has chemistry with Quinn that's not just physical. The sex scenes were not over the top (well not all of the time) and the passion is conveyed well.

I really enjoyed the book especially as the traitor has a POV. There wasn't much of Dylan in this book, Phoebe has a slightly larger role than her mate as she is part of their mission to find out how the virus is infecting the dragons. I don't see a lot of actual character in her (if you know what I mean) she seemes very one dimensional in this book.

This book was very enjoyable, with parts that melted your heart and other parts where you just wanted to read with one eye open.

Dark Embers by Tessa Adams (Book 1 in the Dragon's Heat series)

Dark Embers - Tessa Adams

Dark Embers (Dragon's Heat, #1)Dark Embers by Tessa Adams
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a good book. The passion between Phoebe and Dylan can't be denied. It jumps off the page at you. There are A LOT of sex scenes but the story behind it was a good one. This is the first book I've read containing dragons.

There were only a few things that I didn't like about this book, when Dylan got possessive, he was very physical, he bruised Phoebe with the intensity of his passion and need for her. He also didn't accept that she was his mate as he thought she was human. She turned out to be a dragon so all was well. Too neatly tied up for me. It also didn't go into detail of how she was a dragon but never knew it. The book also hinted at a dark history between Phoebe and her step father. I would have liked to have known more about this instead of general vague details from nightmares.

That said, I did enjoy the book, I loved the other characters and can't wait to read the next installment.

My Wolf Fighter by Rose Wynters

My Wolf Fighter (Wolf Town Guardians Book 4) - Rose Wynters

My Wolf FighterMy Wolf Fighter by Rose Wynters
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received this book in exchange for an honest review from LOP (Lovers of Paranormal)

After the whole scene with the car in the previous book, I was dying to read this installment.

My only issues were the language during the sex scenes, doesn't fit in with the love that is evident between the couple. Also, I think that during the dialogues, the characters are a bit mixed up about what mate they are naming.

Ryker is a loner, a serious kinda guy/wolf and he meets Amanda. She's got a boyfriend (Who is a complete ****) and she's diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Ryker takes her in, not believing she's his mate.

Then Alexander, the King, is challenged for his place on the throne and he asks Ryker to be his second.

I loved seeing how Ryker and Amanda's relationship developed without the mating bond, this was totally different to previous books. And what a happy ending. Awww.

My Wolf Protector (Wolf Town Guardians, #2)My Wolf Protector by Rose Wynters
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review through LOP (Lovers of Paranormal)

My only issue was the language during the sex scenes, doesn't fit in with the love that is evident between the couple.

My wolf protector begins with Marrok riding around on his bike. He comes across Taylor, who is stuck with some biker guys because he friend took a shine to one. Things begin to turn nasty but Marrok comes and saves the night. He scented his mate and he wasn't going to let her go.

Taylor was taken from Marrok. He believes she is dead so he moves pack. Thirty one years later, two nearly dead wolves turn up saying that Taylor sent them to find Marrok.

Nothing gets in this wolf's way to get his mate back. But where has she been and has she escaped unscathed?

Most of the book revolves around Marrok trying to get Taylor to accept him. Taylor doesn't believe she's his true mate and so she is reluctant.

When the pack is faced with the threat that kept her from Marrok for thirty one years, Taylor's secret is out.

One twist turns into a heartbreaking, heart thundering few minutes of frantic reading.

One revelation results in the **** hitting the fan.

And Connor? Bird watching huh? HA!

This first in the series is centered around Alexander, the King of the Wolves, and Carol Ann, a woman who had just moved into her uncles cabin. Alexander comes across Carol Ann while patrolling for panther shifters who had started causing trouble.

Alexander gets one whiff of Carol Ann and he knows that she is the one for him. But how to make her see it? With hot sex of course! The Panther shifter leader is after something that Carol Ann has.

It was a very good, enjoyable read with a little twist just before the end, which was very happy.

The Saskia Trilogy book 1!!!!

Eden Forest - Aoife Marie Sheridan

Eden Forest (Book 1 of the Saskia Trilogy)Eden Forest by Aoife Marie Sheridan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A fantastic read! I was sucked in from the start! I love the how the world building seemed so flawless as we were first introduced to Saskia. Marta made the transition seem so realistic and the relationship between Marta and her daughter Sarajane was so real.

The book progressed at a fast pace. The characters were well rounded, although I would have like to have seen the traitor's character developed a bit more so that I could hate him a bit more.

The relationship between Sarajane and Tristin almost came out of nowhere but I knew that these two characters would 'connect' shall we say. And can I just say? Tristin was all male, tall, dark, and subtly alpha. Really loved him.

All in all, a wonderful read. I'm looking forward to reading book 2!

Hunters - A new book by Aoife Sheridan

Hunters (Demon Series Part One) - Aoife Marie Sheridan

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

Abigail is a 19 year old demon hunter. Her life until she was 11 had been pretty brutal. She was taken in my Father Peter, a priest who taught her all about demons, after her parents and brother died.

I'm a fan of the author, having read the first two installments in Sheridan's Saskia trilogy so I was really excited when I had the chance to review this book.

Hunters shocked me, it's so much darker than The Saskia trilogy. As I began to read, one thing really stood out for me. Abigail has a huge drinking problem. Every time I read (something along the lines of) I need a drink or I need another drink, I got really annoyed. Abigail spent 3/4 of this book trying to get drink, drinking or dealing with a hangover.

Abigail is a mess, this is evident from the start. She doesn't believe in herself and nobody else seems to either. The more I read, the more I understood why she had turned to drink, but I kept waiting and waiting for her to get a grip and overcome her problem or for someone else to actually offer her help instead of commanding her to stop.

Apart from all that, I really did enjoy the book, something was always happening, but for the first half of the book I couldn't see where it was leading. There were so many elements but I couldn't figure out the link regardless of how much I racked my brain.

This book is well written but there are some parts that outshine the rest, like when Sheridan describes Abigail taking her phone out of her pocket in the freezing cold. It was that well written that I could almost feel it myself!!!!!

There are parts in this book where Abigail shines, give the girl an argument and she wins hands down. She's wonderfully adept at winding people up (sometimes too much).

Even though I couldn't really make sense of where this book was heading until about half way through, by 86% i was rewarded. SOO DID NOT SEE THAT ONE COMING!!!!!

Then it all kicked off.... Then it was over....

And I was like.... BUT WHAT HAPPENS NEXT??????

A very good book, a little hard to read at times, but well worth it.
